When I researched how this jacket was created a few years ago, I found out a lot of used techniques are not difficult to apply at all. By using these techniques in the right way, your jacket gets a beautiful timeless couture look that really makes all the difference.
It has become my goal to show everyone that it is not so difficult to learn how to make this beautiful jacket for yourself. With an average sewing knowledge, time and patience, you can come a long way. In my blog you can see some examples of the hand-sewing stitches that are used when creating this jacket: http://thedressmakersacademy.com/blog.html
The sewing pattern and the Facebook group
To sew this jacket I have drawn a beautiful pattern you can download immediately after purchase. I offer the pattern as a A4 and A0 pdf format in English. I have included all the features -that make this jacket so special, in the pattern, resulting in a very beautiful fit. Furthermore, you will receive a total of 6 online lessons and you will get access to the private Facebook group. Here you can ask all your questions and see the answers to questions from fellow students. As a bonus, I will do a webinar every week to explain even more about the process and to answer all your questions.
I will often be present in the Facebook group, also live if necessary. When I notice things are difficult or unclear, I will also add an extra lesson in the form of a short video or text with photos in the group.
What you will learn in this masterclass:
-How to take measurements -How to make a toile/muslin first -How to adapt the muslin to your own figure -How to give the jacket its beautiful shape by hand -How to quilt the lining on the jacket (not complicated at all) -What tools you can use best -How to make a nice trim so you personalize your jacket -How to make the cute pockets, all by hand -How to strengthen the hem and the front part with the appropriate materials -How to get a silky reinforcement by firming with silk chiffon
All techniques that are not difficult to use at all. The secret is in the time you spend on the jacket. By doing a lot by hand, according to the old craft, your head will be empty and you can go at your own pace, , each time a little closer to finishing the jacket. And you will see all the attention and all the manual labour will work! Your jacket will wear as a comfortable 'cardigan' and at the same time will have the typical "Chanel" look that made this jacket so famous. Precise what Madame Coco had in mind when she designed this jacket more than 60 years ago.
Like many of you, my sewing adventure started 23 years ago when I got a sewing machine from my mother in law. Together with a friend I started sewing lessons and a huge passion was born! I quickly graduated with a diploma as a dressmaker and decided to make my work of my passion. I worked as a dressmaker and head-dressmaker in various bridal shops and had my own sewing workshop / shop. Later I started to take classes in almost forgotten couture techniques and learned how to draw my own sewing patterns. In recent years I have been working mainly on assignment for clients, culminating in an assignment for our Dutch Queen Maxima. When I went to London last January on a sewing inspiration trip, New plans started to developpe in my head and hart. My idea for The Dressmakers Academy was born and here is the result!
I hope to inspire many people and help them to increase their sewing knowledge and sewing pleasure !!
